Background Societal influences Communicative language teaching rose to prominence in the 1970s and early 1980s as a result of many disparate developments in both Europe and the United States.[1] First, there was an increased demand for language leaing, particularly in Europe. The advent of the European Common Market led to European migration, and consequently there was a large population of people who needed to lea a foreign language for work or for personal reasons.[2] At the same time, children were increasingly able to lea foreign languages in school. The number of secondary schools offering languages rose worldwide in the 1960s and 1970s as part of a general trend of curriculum-broadening and modeization, and foreign-language study ceased to be confined to the elite academies. How to Be a Successful English Teacher – Things I Leaed the Hard Way Teaching in any country can be challenging, even without the added difficulty of a language barrier.  Yet as globalization increases, the demand for English teachers inteationally continues to boom literally everywhere around the world.  Many English teaching positions don’t require experience or a relevant degree, and will accept any graduate of a higher education institute who is willing to give teaching a try.  That said, there is a huge difference between landing a job in Korea, Costa Rica, or Armenia and teaching English, and teaching it well. Here are some general tips for future teachers of the world, or anyone with an interest in expanding their horizons overseas.  Some of these suggestions are based on research done by prominent figures in language acquisition research, and some are through my own triumphs and epic failures as an ESL teacher.  Hopefully they’ll make your transition abroad that much smoot وبلاگ آموزشی زبان متوسطه اول . اردستان...

When other teachers, even other ESL teachers, hear I’m teaching an ESL conversation class, they often say it sounds “relaxing,” or “fun” or “easy.” Most teachers will smile at this, of course, recognizing that any teaching, while it may be fun, is almost never “relaxing” or “easy.”   And while the conversation class may certainly be less rigorous than, for example, an advanced writing class, it has its own set of problems. In a writing class, I know what the students need, and the title “Advanced ESL Composition” alone suggests the curriculum: course readings and several student essays on related topics over the course of the semester, in drafts increasing polished and focused on structure, grammar, and punctuation. A conversation class, however, is less defined. What exactly is a conversation class? What is the curriculum? Sometimes there’s not even a course text available. Despite this initial lack of clarity, however, there are general principles of best practice that a conversatio وبلاگ آموزشی زبان متوسطه اول . اردستان...

How to Teach English Conversation Class How to Teach English: Tips for Teaching Private or Group Conversational EFL/ESL Classes Be Prepared: even for a purely conversational class, at minimum bring a pen and paper (to write down mistakes) and some conversation topics. While sometimes a conversation will flow organically from ‘What’s new?’ into something interesting, it’s good to have a list of about four or five interesting questions for when there is a lull in the conversation. Having a dictionary can also be helpful. Don’t Talk Too Much: although some students are happy listening to their teacher’s wonderful English, they can do this at home with a DVD. In class, keep your talk time down and aim to have the student(s) do 70% of the speaking. Ask open-ended questions instead of Yes/No questions. Use a “Tell me more” approach. In group settings, have students talk together, while you play the role of a moderator. Guide the conversation without becoming the focus of it.
